The Indegenous has been involved in the discussion and is working with the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) on the Net Zero Principles draft. The new London Declaration, coordinated by BSI, will allow for a significant acceleration in government and industry efforts to combat climate change, and their transition to net zero through standards defined by ISO's commitment. The organization has been included for the engagement of indigenous communities in the development of the Net Zero Guiding Principles Draft. Meetings have been held since July to assure global standards and to progress on international initiatives. We have attended the commenting window meeting, comments were endorsed by member constituents.
Comments on the draft's inclusion of collective rights, social justice, equity, and inclusiveness for a worldwide shift to climate-positive activities in a net zero paradigm as well as the removal of carbon, preservation and improvement of primary forests, oceans, and carbon sinks, and biodiversity-rich territories managed by indigenous peoples were recommended, as well as the need to consult with indigenous peoples to give their free, prior, and informed consent when formulating, adopting, implementing, and monitoring legislative, administrative measures, policies, programs, trade and investment decisions and greening industrial activities. The action plan to accomplish the climate objective with the indigenous peoples initiative is still ongoing with the ISO and various other international organizations and stakeholders.
